EMDR((Eye Movement Desensitization Processing))

What is EMDR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy at Bodhi Counseling is an evidence-based approach designed to help individuals process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. EMDR supports the brain’s natural ability to reprocess memories that have become “stuck,” reducing the emotional intensity and physical reactivity associated with past events.

How EMDR Therapy Works at Bodhi

At Bodhi Counseling, EMDR therapy is provided within a trauma-informed, client-centered framework that prioritizes safety, pacing, and consent. Therapists work collaboratively with clients to build stabilization and coping skills before engaging in memory reprocessing. EMDR does not require detailed verbal recounting of traumatic experiences, and treatment is guided by the client’s readiness and goals.

In EMDR therapy, clinicians may:

  • help clients identify distressing memories or experiences

  • support nervous system regulation and stabilization

  • use bilateral stimulation to facilitate reprocessing

  • reduce emotional and physical distress linked to past events

  • integrate insights, strengths, and adaptive beliefs

  • combine EMDR with relational and strengths-based approaches

EMDR can be used to address both single-incident trauma and more complex or developmental trauma, as well as other experiences that continue to impact emotional wellbeing.

Who EMDR Therapy May Help

EMDR therapy may be helpful for individuals and teens who are:

  • processing traumatic or distressing life events

  • experiencing PTSD or trauma-related symptoms

  • coping with anxiety, panic, or intrusive thoughts

  • healing from childhood, relational, or medical trauma

  • feeling stuck in patterns linked to past experiences

  • seeking a trauma-focused therapy that does not rely on extensive talk
