Out-of-network billing

Not in network with your insurance? You can still use your out-of-network benefits. You pay the full session fee at each session (rates are on our Fees & policies page), then choose one of the two options below to get reimbursed. If your plan is in network with Bodhi, none of this applies. We bill your plan directly. Not sure? Text us at 217-731-4638.

How you can pay

Credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express)
HSA or FSA card
Cash
Check

A card on file is required. After that, we accept:

Choose how you get reimbursed

Option 1: Courtesy billing (we file for you)

You pay in full at your session. We submit the claim to your insurance through our billing system, Sessions Health, marked so your insurance pays you directly. If they approve it, the reimbursement goes straight to you. Before we file, you sign a Courtesy Billing Authorization saying you've paid in full, reimbursement isn't guaranteed, any payment goes to you, Bodhi isn't responsible for denials or delays, and you'll meet your plan's filing deadlines.

Option 2: Superbill (you file it yourself)

Prefer to handle it yourself? Ask for a superbill. It's an itemized receipt with everything your insurance needs: provider name, NPI, license number, practice address, date of service, CPT and diagnosis codes, the charge, and what you paid. We post it to your Client Portal within 3 business days of your session, or when you ask. Submit it soon, since plans have filing deadlines.

Check with your insurance first

Out-of-network benefits vary a lot from plan to plan. A quick call to your insurance before you start can save you surprises.

Questions to ask

Does my plan include out-of-network mental health benefits? What's my out-of-network deductible, and how much have I met? What percent do you reimburse after the deductible? What's the deadline to file out-of-network claims? Is telehealth covered out of network?

HMO plans

Most HMO plans don't have out-of-network benefits. If yours doesn't, insurance won't reimburse you, even with courtesy billing. Check your plan type before you ask us to file.

Filing deadlines

Most insurance companies give you 90 to 365 days from your session to file. We send courtesy claims promptly, but late or missing insurance info from you can make you miss the window.

What to expect

What we'll do

Submit courtesy claims promptly with the right codes. Create superbills within 3 business days of your request. Let you know if a claim is rejected and needs corrected info. We can only keep your insurance info current when you tell us about changes.

What we can't do

Guarantee reimbursement from any insurance company. Lower or refund the session fee based on what insurance pays. File appeals or disputes with your insurance for you. Accept insurance payments under this policy. Submit claims for unlicensed or non-credentialed staff.

Your part

Tell us right away when your insurance changes, and upload your new card to the Client Portal. If we don't know about a change, claims get denied and you can end up with a large bill. Pay in full at each session. Sign the Courtesy Billing Authorization. Check your out-of-network benefits. Submit superbills on time if you file them yourself. Call your insurance with claim status questions.

A note about cost

If you're a current client and money gets tight, talk to us. We'll have an honest conversation about what might be possible. We can't promise a specific outcome, but we'd rather talk it through than have you quietly stop coming. Email info@bodhicounseling.care or mention it to your clinician.
