Who DBT may help

DBT may help adults and teens who experience intense or rapidly shifting emotions, struggle with emotional regulation or impulsive behaviors, deal with relationship conflict or communication difficulties, or cope with anxiety, depression, or trauma-related distress. It can also help when urges to self-harm or difficulty tolerating distress start affecting daily life, school, or work.

What DBT may include

  • Mindfulness and present-moment awareness

  • Emotional regulation skills

  • Distress tolerance for overwhelming situations

  • Interpersonal communication and boundaries

  • Balancing self-acceptance with meaningful change

  • Strengths-based and relational perspectives

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Skills for intense emotions, relationships and stress

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based approach that helps you build skills for managing intense emotions, improving relationships, and handling stress more effectively. DBT balances acceptance and change: understanding your emotional experiences while building practical tools for responding to what life throws at you.

How DBT works at Bodhi

DBT at Bodhi is collaborative, trauma-informed, and client-centered. Your therapist works with you to identify emotional patterns and behaviors that add to your distress, and helps you build new skills for regulation and resilience.

DBT can be the main approach in your therapy or blended with other therapies, depending on your needs and goals.
