Meet Chad Cottrell, PMHNP-BC- A: More Connected Approach to Mental Health

Have you ever felt like your mental health care focused on a diagnosis instead of your full story? Finding the right mental health provider can feel overwhelming—especially if you’ve ever felt like your story was reduced to a diagnosis and a prescription. At Bodhi Counseling, we believe care should feel personal, collaborative, and grounded in understanding the whole person. That’s why we’re excited to introduce Chad Cottrell, PMHNP-BC, to our team.

Chad is a Board-Certified Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than 20 years of nursing experience and two years of advanced practice providing psychiatric care across the lifespan. He works with children as young as six, teenagers, and adults, supporting people through both acute challenges and long-standing mental health concerns.

More than symptom management

Chad’s approach goes beyond simply treating symptoms. He takes time to understand what may be driving anxiety, depression, mood changes, or attention difficulties beneath the surface. Many clients come to him wondering why they still don’t feel well despite being on medication—or whether something deeper is contributing to how they feel.

Chad believes mental health is closely connected to physical health, lifestyle, sleep, nutrition, and environment. When appropriate, he integrates conventional psychiatric care with functional and integrative approaches, which may include exploring gut-brain health, hormone balance, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, and nervous system regulation.

His goal is always to use the least amount of medication necessary to help clients feel more like themselves—or become the version of themselves they’ve been working toward.

Who Chad works with

Chad provides care for children, teenagers, and adults experiencing concerns such as:

  • PTSD, complex trauma, and developmental trauma

  • Depression and bipolar disorder

  • Anxiety disorders, including panic disorder and OCD

  • ADHD across the lifespan

  • Child and teenager mental health concerns

  • The lasting effects of early trauma on relationships, self-esteem, and daily functioning

He has a special interest in integrative approaches to depression, bipolar disorder, and OCD, and in using functional psychiatry to better understand the mind–body connection.
