Today I'll continue talking about grounding. I'll guide you through a physical and a soothing grounding exercise.
Many years ago, I was told that I spent all my time in my head. I thought it was a compliment! Like I was so smart that I spent all my time thinking. (I know, don't judge!) Since then, I have come to appreciate that I was only living half a life not being present in my body. It took time and practice and I couldn't appreciate what I was missing out on until I found it. I guess, what I'm trying to say is practicing physical grounding is worth it.
Physical grounding is all about being present in your body. It's a great exercise to help you not dissociate. Being able to stay in your body and experience the world through physical sensations is so important! It helps you regulate your emotions, it keeps you from hurting yourself. It allows you to really appreciate going for a walk or eating a good meal.
Soothing grounding is about talking to yourself in a kind way. It's a positive way to distract from negative emotions.
